Better than Cup-o-noodles
Yesterday I noticed my local store had salmon steaks. As the fish counter guy advised me in February, I should grab up salmon steaks when I see them as they're rarely available anymore due to Safeway's fulfillment process. So I did! Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that I was at a Zoomazium event tonight, so my plan to make them for dinner morphed into a plan to make them for lunch instead!
I used this recipe: PINEAPPLE TERIYAKI SALMON
Chris loved it from the first bite and declared it was "like buttah."
That sounds like a great lunch, and the recipe looks like a snap.
I'll have to give it a try. Even since I got the red curry with mushrooms and pineapple down at the local Thai place, I've had a hankering for more, well, pineapple with my meals. Go figure.
It's worth noting that since I was making the salmon with steaks instead of filets, I increased the cooking time a bit to get it just right. About 4 minutes on side one, then flipped and cooked for another 2-3 minutes before putting it in the oven for a total of 5-6 additional minutes, basting with sauce halfway through. I had big, thick salmon steaks and they were perfectly done all the way through.
'Safeway's Fulfillment Policy'? What's this?
'Safeway's Fulfillment Policy'? What's this?
That was "Safeway's fulfillment process" not "policy". I included the link to my previous post so I would not have to write it up a second time, but I suppose I can cut and paste the bit here for those unwilling to click for themselves:
As the seafood guy explained to me, individual stores used to be able to call the local seafood suppliers and stock what they wanted, but now the orders are called in to a main Safeway hub and from there the hub makes the orders and distributes the product...so if my Safeway is the only store in the area that wants salmon steaks, the central hub won't bother filling the order for them and will send him some of what all the other stores want instead. He advised me to watch for ads for whole salmon, because they can cut steaks themselves for me if they've got whole salmon in stock. Otherwise, looks like it's salmon fillets or nothing. Thanks corporate America!
Sorry. I didn't connect that the link would have explained the process thing. :(
